Meet our EFWA 2024 Upcycler: Emma Bond
Emma Bond is a Queensland based designer, artist and educator sharing knowledge about the circular fashion economy and responsible practice. Her raison d’etre is showcasing Australian fashion as the collaboration of hard work, resiliance, creativity and science between primary producers and the textile industry.
Emma’s journey involved studying Fine Art and Education, teaching fashion in secondary schools and vocationally, then launching her fashion brand Madi and Pip to reconnect people to the stories of theur clothes which all start with the fibre from which they are made. In addition to creating timeless and bespoke designs from natural fibres, Emma is keen to let nothing go to waste.
“I always save my offcuts and damaged fashion items to create one-off special pieces or embellishment. I like the challenge of bringing it all together and breathing new life to precious materials” Emma said.
“For my Upcycling Challenge entry, I am using many small offcuts of my own and that of another local bridal brand to create a customer fabric, pieced together from many skills. This bridal design is multiwear and multisize and finished with hand rolled hemlines.”
“I’m thrilled to be part of Eco Fashion Week Australia as a vehicle for shining a light on sustainable fashion solutions and encouraging creativity and thoughtful fashion.”
