Meet our EFWA 2024 Upcycler: Jodie Kemp
Jodie Kemp is a slow fashion designer creating forever clothing on Wadawurrung Country in Victoria, Australia. She works with salvaged vintage and sentimental textiles and crafts them into beautiful garments using ethical and sustainable practices.
As a marine biologist turned designer, Jodie has established her own label Clarence & Mabel @clarence_and_mabel and is so grateful for the community that has rallied around her creative work.
“Every dress I make tells a story of connection, unearthed through the art of repurposing textiles! My hero textile, that will forever make my heart skip a beat, is flawed/damaged vintage materials just waiting for their next chapter! Old made new again,” Jodie said.
“I believe the most important factor in sustainable design is connecting people to the clothing they invest in. Creating a space where clients imbue a piece of themselves into the creations we make together, results in clothing that is cherished forever!”
Jodie said she’s incredibly excited to see all the amazing artists unearthed to shine in the spotlight through the 2024 EFWA Upcycling Challenge process.
