Please share a little bit about who you are and what you do in your regular life?
I am studying Fashion Design at Edith Cowan University as part of a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts. I also work with Zuhal at Eco Fashion Week Australia where I am involved in Communications, Administration, and the Volunteers Department.
At what point did you begin to learn about the issue of sustainability in every area of daily life?
Thanks to my parents I have always known about living sustainably. As one of 9 children, I grew up avoiding waste by recycling, reusing, and composting. We often bought second-hand and almost all of my childhood holidays were camping - respecting and appreciating nature.
Have you embraced any changes that help you personally leave a smaller ecological footprint?
I have embraced many of these changes. I rarely if ever send clothes to landfill anymore, I cut down on food wrap use, and I almost always have my own water bottle and coffee cup. I recycle everything I can and try to buy second hand and/or Australian Made first.
My partner and I compost and consciously avoid animal products for some of our weekly meals. I catch the bus to work and my pet cats are adopted. I'm very lucky to enjoy my partner's homemade Kombucha. We only buy pastured free range eggs and I have been using reusable shopping bags for years now.
How did you meet Zuhal and what led you to become involved with EFWA 2018?
I met Zuhal thanks to the magic of Google. Early last year I was looking for industry experience in fashion local to me in Perth - but due to my values it had to be sustainable or Eco fashion. After researching the work she was doing, I reached out to her and she invited me over for tea The rest is history.
What was it about EFWA's mission that drew you to offer your talents in support of this international event?
Zuhal and her passion are simply infectious. I was drawn to her and EFWA because she has a strong reason why she does what she does- to help the planet as well as upcoming and talented fashion designers.
As a part of the EFWA 2018 team, what role or roles will you be filling?
My position is Administration, Communications, and Volunteer Manager. I will also be helping out backstage and hopefully you will see my work on the runway!
